Is True Freedom Only a Foolish Ideal?

If I had to ask them, or for that matter, anyone leading a similar lifestyle, if they are truly happy and fulfilled in their job, or line of work, I am certain the answer would be a resounding "No!". However, at the same time, I have been laughed at and ridiculed by these people for suggesting a change of life and of lifestyle, to them. I have been laughed at and ridiculed for sharing my views, in a hope to improve the lives of these people and of those living a similar corporate lifestyle.

It is important for me to state; I am happy with my life and although I have many personal goals I have yet to achieve, I nevertheless, feel fulfilled in what I have already achieved. How many of these people can truly say this of their lives. Am I really the one who should be laughed at, when considering this? If there is, or this is a joke, who is it really on?

There are people who are motivated by security and there are people who are motivated by freedom. I have realized that at times I have been coming up against a mindset, a mindset encouraged by society, by the corporate world, by the "workplace", the mindset of security, of having the comfort of receiving a pay-check. My views have often threatened people of this mindset and their sense of security. I say "sense of security" because it isn't true security, rather a sense of security. It is the fear of losing their jobs, as much as the security a job provides that keeps most of these people in their jobs - even while they are miserable in their jobs. If I had to ask any of these people if they are free, they would most probably answer "yes" but are they truly free? Can they choose their work hours? Can they choose their salary? Can they afford to go where they wish, when they wish and if they wish to? If you are motivated by security you become a slave in chains, a slave to your boss and a slave to the system.

One cannot be motivated by security and the same time, be motivated by freedom.

I am motivated by freedom, freedom in the true sense of the word, that is; financial freedom, spiritual freedom, psychological freedom, physical freedom, emotional freedom, social freedom and vocational freedom. This is not a foolish ideal and I am not the only person who is motivated by this ideal and who aspires to and lives this reality.

I would like to conclude by reiterating the words of Jean-Jacques Rousseau; "Man is born free; and everywhere he is in chains. One thinks himself the master of others, and still remains a greater slave than they." How true Mr Rousseau, how true!

Most people, are not necessarily out of choice; slaves to their jobs, to their bosses and to the system. Many of these people, are unaware of this. Most people are motivated by security and fear, however, they long for and desire, a freedom of lifestyle that they cannot afford.

As I stated previously; one cannot be motivated by security and at the same time, be motivated by freedom.
